Lapeer Township Elected Officials: Supervisor
- Scott Jarvis Lapeer Township administrative assistant, deputy clerk and deputy treasurer: Nancy Bradford Lapeer Township is a general law township established through the Northwest Ordinance passed by Congress in 1787. Township government is conducted by a township board consisting of five members; supervisor, clerk, treasurer and two trustees. These positions are elected positions lasting for four years. Township primary elections are conducted in August of the presidential election years. Supervisor's statutory duties - Moderates board and annual meetings, if certified is the chief assessing officer, secretary to the board of review, Township's legal agent, maintains the records of the supervisors office, develops the township budget, appoints some commission members, may call special meetings and may appoint a deputy. Clerk's statutory duties - Maintains custody of all township records, maintains the township general ledger, prepares warrants for township checks, records and maintains township meeting minutes, keeps the township book of oaths, is responsible for special meeting notices, publishes board meeting minutes, keeps voter registration file and conducts elections, keep the township ordinance book, prepares financial statements, delivers tax certificates to the supervisor and county clerk by September 30th, must appoint a deputy, must post a surety bond. Treasurer's statutory duties - collects real and personal property taxes, keeps an account of township receipts and expenditures, issues township checks, deposits township revenues in approved depositories, invests township funds in approved investments, collects delinquent personal property tax, responsible for jeopardy assessments in collecting property tax, collects mobile home tax, must appoint a deputy, must post a surety bond. Trustee's statutory duties - Township legislators; required to vote on all issues, responsible for township's fiduciary health, other duties as assigned by board. Although these are statutory duties of each office dictated by Michigan State law, there are many other duties performed by each official. |

BOARD MEETING SCHEDULE:The township board meets the 2nd Monday of the month except for October meets the 2nd Tuesday. Meetings alternate between evenings at 7:00 p.m. and mornings at 8:30 a.m. Any changes to this meeting schedule will be posted in accordance with law. |
